The short version: your ratings, reflections and progress stay on your phone and in your own cloud account. The app sends Obstickle one thing: an anonymous count each time you finish a step. It says which step, roughly how long since your last one, and a few technical details listed below. Nothing in it can identify you.
The app
What stays with you
Everything you enter (the steps you complete, the confidence ratings you give, and the reflections you write) is saved on your device. On Android, it’s also saved to your own Google Drive, in a private app folder. That copy lives in your Google account, under your control. We never receive your entries, store them, or see them. That’s what keeps the in-app promise true: “Remember, only you see what you enter here.”
The app has no accounts to create and asks for no personal information.
The one thing we count
When you save a step, the app sends one anonymous count to our server. Each count contains only:
- which app (for example, Meeting Women)
- whether your phone runs iOS or Android
- which version of the app you have
- the step number (1 to 30)
- roughly how many days since your previous step, as a range (0, 1, 2 to 3, 4 to 7, 8 to 14, or 15 or more)
- whether an Obstickle widget is on your home screen (yes or no)
- a format number, so our server knows how to read the count
Our server adds the date the count arrives (the day only, not the time) to a running daily total, then discards the count itself. That’s all. It does not include your rating, your reflection, your name, an account, an advertising ID, a device ID, your location, or anything that could connect one of your counts to another. To send the count, your phone connects to our server (hosted by Cloudflare), so the connection briefly carries your IP address, as every internet connection does. We don’t store it.
Why we count: it shows how many people reach each step and where people tend to stop, which tells us which steps need work. It is not used for advertising, and it is never sold or shared.
You can turn this off anytime in the app: go to About and switch off “Share anonymous step counts.”
Sample data shown in the app’s demo mode is never counted.
The home screen widget
On iPhone and Android, you can add an Obstickle widget to your home screen. It shows your next step’s short title and your progress through the 30 steps. The widget reads this from the app on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere to make it work, and it never shows your ratings or reflections. The only widget detail that ever leaves your phone is the yes-or-no in the step count above.
The widget is visible to anyone who sees your screen. Adding it is your choice, and you can remove it anytime by pressing and holding it.
Reminders
Daily reminders are scheduled by your phone itself. No outside reminder service is involved.
The website (obstickle.me)
The website is hosted by Cloudflare. Like almost any website, it records standard, aggregate visitor metrics on our behalf: things like the date and time of a visit and a broad, approximate location derived from your IP address. This helps us understand roughly how many people visit and from where. It is not used to identify you.
The site detects whether you’re on Android, iOS or a desktop browser so it can show you the relevant images and download links. This happens in your browser as the page loads; it isn’t stored.
When you tap a download button, we add one to an anonymous daily tally so we can see how many downloads each store gets. This count records only which button was tapped and the date. No IP address, no device details, no cookies, nothing that could identify you.
The website uses no advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
Downloading from the app stores
The app is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play. When you download or update it, Apple or Google may collect information under their own privacy policies, which we don’t control. See Apple’s privacy policy and Google’s privacy policy for details.
Children
Obstickle is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from children. The only thing the app sends is the anonymous step count described above, which cannot identify anyone.
